The President of the Balearic Islands, Marga Prohens, and the Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Sports, Jaume Bauzà, presided over the sixth edition of the Balearic Islands Sports Gala on Monday. During this event, the Premis Esports IB 2023 were presented, recognizing the outstanding achievements of athletes and clubs during the 2022/2023 season, a testament to the Government's recognition of their dedication and talent.
Six exceptional athletes were honored with top awards for their sporting prowess: triathlete Bernat Xamena, canoeist Álex Graneri, basketball sensation Alba Torrens, taekwondo practitioner Daniel Quesada, karate expert Irene Colomar, and special acknowledgments commemorating the 100th anniversary of CD Manacor and SD Portmany soccer teams.
Celebrated motorboating world champion Alejandro Prats clinched the Male Promise award, while canoeist Maria de los Angeles Moreno was named the female promise of 2023.
In adapted sports, swimmer Isabel Shihuaying de la Cruz was recognized in the female category, receiving the award from Antoni Pomar, president of the Federation of Adapted Sports of the Balearic Islands. Nil Riudavets, Paralympic triathlete, was honored as the best male adapted sportsman, presented by triathlete Mario Mola.
In the second segment of awards, the best coaches, Yolanda Llompart (artistic gymnastics) and Carlos Vicens (soccer), were honored. In the former case, it was Llompart's students who bestowed her with the award, while Alfonso Diaz, CEO of Real Mallorca, presented the same recognition to the assistant coach of Manchester City.
Recognizing the best teams, Club Bàsquet Menorca Hestia stood out on the men's side, while Xelsca Illes Balears artistic gymnastics represented the women's division.
Towards the culmination of the gala, athlete Tòfol Castanyer was recognized for "promoting sports values". Top athletes included canoeist Joan Toni Moreno, and soccer players Cata Coll and Mariona Caldentey. Additionally, gymnast Cintia Rodríguez received an accolade honoring her entire sporting career.
Held at the Palma Congress Center, the event featured captivating musical and artistic performances by the groups Pell de Gall and Sion Calafat.
