On the occasion of Oceans Day and the celebration of the ASLO Aquatic Sciences Meeting international congress, which took place in Mallorca from June 4 to 9, the Palma Convention Center promoted an awareness-raising activity on marine pollution in Port Adriano, hand in hand with the Imagin SeaBin project.
SeaBin devices are floating marine litter bins made from 100% recycled materials, capable of collecting up to 1.4 tonnes of waste and 300,000 plastic objects from the sea each year. They help to clean the seas and oceans of plastic waste, floating debris and microfibres.
Palma Convention Center brought together a group of volunteers to participate in a data session session together with the SeaBin Palma team to learn about Seabin technology, how the staff regularly empty the bins, weigh the marine debris collected, classify it according to its composition and recycle it. The aim is to monitor the impact of debris on the sea and ocean and find the most suitable places to install the bins.
