Throughout its history, Meliá Hotels International has been involved in many hotel chain mergers and acquisitions that have allowed it to grow very quickly. The Company has always had a strategic focus on international growth, leading to it becoming the first to set up operations in many key markets.

Founded in 1956 in Palma de Mallorca in Spain, Meliá Hotels International is one of the largest hotel chains in the world, with more than 370 hotels in 43 countries. The Company is also a benchmark for sustainability and social responsibility in the Spanish travel industry. Its commitment to sustainability and responsibility has led to alliances with several organisations focused on the workplace integration and employability of young people, as well as the protection and development of children.

The Convention Centre has been created to assist in the transformation of the city into a business destination that is competitive on an international level. Palma City Council and the Balearic Islands Government begin working on Palma Convention Centre in 2005.

At the end of 2016, Meliá Hotels International was proud to be selected as the company to manage the facilities for the following 15 years.

The Convention Centre finally opened its doors in May 2017, celebrating its first event with a gala dinner for 800 people in the EXPO Zone.
