On February 21, the Meliá Palma Bay hotel held a private event to thank the effort and service vocation of all the employees of the Son Llàtzer Hospital who participated in the hotel's medicalization operation during the Covid19 pandemic.
During the event, which brought together thirty people from Son Llatzer Hospital, the former general manager of the congress center, Ramón Vidal, presented a commemorative plaque to the Head of Nursing of the medicalized hotel, Maite Haro. According to Vidal, "it has been one of the most valuable experiences in our history". Likewise, he thanked the courage and commitment of all the health personnel and recalled the public service vocation of the Palma Congress Center, feeling "very proud of this place and its contribution to the fight against Covid19 in Mallorca".
Maite Haro shared, with nostalgia, some reflections on her last day at the hotel, in which she claimed to have "mixed feelings: sadness, because a project in which I have participated with great enthusiasm, great effort and a great team; and joy, because it means that we are beginning to see the end of this pandemic.”
During the hotel's medicalization period, a total of 1,087 people were accommodated in its facilities, both patients with mild symptoms of Covid-19, asymptomatic positives, close contacts, or affected people who could not isolate themselves at home.
The hotel also managed the maintenance and reception staff and provided the technical service for check-ins and check-outs, and since September 2020 it has also hosted a pioneering pediatric care center in Spain.
