The European Conference on Interventional Oncology – ECIO 2024 – took place from April 28-May 1 in Palma de Mallorca, providing a comprehensive, interdisciplinary platform for the discussion of state-of-the-art minimally invasive cancer care.
The Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiological Society of Europe (CIRSE) hosted the world’s most comprehensive conference on minimally invasive, image-guided oncology from April 28 – May 1 in the Balearic capital, offering four days of programming with more than 190 presentations and 20 hands-on sessions for oncology experts from around the globe.
The 2,000 attending healthcare specialists included interventional radiologists, but also experts from neighbouring fields involved in cancer care, such as surgeons, radiation oncologists, hepatologists, and many more, making it a truly multidisciplinary meeting to discuss new and improved paths for cancer care.
Highlight topics included combination strategies for HCC treatment, immuno-oncology, paediatric interventional oncology (IO), AI for IO, and many more, the prevailing theme being interdisciplinary teamwork to offer the best possible cancer care. In this spirit, ECIO 2024 also featured a joint session with the European Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology (ESTRO) and a session with the European Society for Organ Transplantation (ESOT).
“As we keep improving survival chances for patients suffering from cancer, it is increasingly becoming a chronic, manageable disease which must be closely monitored with the help of a multidisciplinary team.” says ECIO 2024 Chairperson Prof. Laura Crocetti.
