EU tourism ministers held an informal meeting today, 31 October, in Palma's Congress Center, organised by the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the EU, under the slogan "The road towards the social sustainability of tourism in the European Union", where they discussed the roadmap for promoting the sustainability of tourism.
The choice of Palma as the venue for this working meeting highlights Mallorca's relevance as a European tourism power.
Improving professional skills was one of the key points on today's agenda, as well as the need for the European Union to have a specific tourism budget, in line with the weight of this industry.
Other current challenges facing the sector were also analysed, such as the joint Parliament and Commission regulation to regulate the exchange of data between Member States on tourist accommodation.
The meeting was chaired by the Spanish Secretary of State for Tourism, Rosana Morillo Rodríguez.
