Agri-food Cooperatives of Spain held their IX National Congress on March 27-28, 2025, at the Palma Congress Center. Under the theme "Agri-food Cooperatives: Sustainability with People," the event gathered nearly a thousand professionals, providing a platform for debate and reflection on the challenges and opportunities shaping the future of agri-food cooperativism.
The Congress was inaugurated by notable figures including the EU Commissioner for Agriculture and Food, Christophe Hansen; President of Cooperatives Agro-alimentàries Illes Balears, Jerónima Bonafé; President of Cooperativas Agro-alimentarias de España, Ángel Villafranca; Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Luis Planas; and the President of the Government of the Balearic Islands, Margalida Prohens.
Prominent speakers included Enrico Letta, former Prime Minister of Italy, Dean of IE, and President of the Jacques Delors Institute; and Miguel Otero Iglesias, Senior Researcher at the Elcano Royal Institute.
On the first day, the Strategic Plan of the Spanish Agri-Food Cooperative 2025-2028 was unveiled, serving as a crucial roadmap for the sector in the coming years. The second day focused on the major challenges facing agri-food cooperativism, with an emphasis on sustainability, climate change, and generational renewal.
